Dr. TJ McDonald specializes in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He received his Bachelors degree in Cell Biology and Neuroscience from Rutgers University and completed his Doctorate of Dental Medicine at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey.

At UMDNJ, Dr. McDonald was highly respected by his colleagues and professors alike; he was voted class president for all four years and received numerous academic scholarships and honors. Upon graduation, he went on to complete an intensive four year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgical Residency at Brookdale Hospital and Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY.

Brookdale provided Dr. McDonald with a unique training experience as it is both a Level 1 trauma center as well as one of the pioneers in replacing missing teeth with dental implants. With nearly six months of his training dedicated to providing general anesthesia under the direct supervision of anesthesiologists, Dr. McDonald is also able to consult with apprehensive patients and help them decide how to accomplish their goals with the highest level of safety possible.

Dr. McDonald has been practicing in Ocean County for the last ten years and utilizes the most recent advances in oral surgery and implant dentistry to provide high quality and minimally invasive procedures.

Dr. McDonald is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS), certified the first year he was elibigble in 2018.

Board certification is not the same as a dental license. Any licensed dentist may legally remove a tooth or place an implant. ABOMS certification additionally requires graduation from an accredited four-year hospital-based surgical residency, a documented surgical case log, and passing a written qualifying examination followed by an oral certifying examination judged by practicing surgeons. Diplomates maintain certification through ongoing continuing education and
periodic recertification.

For patients, it means the surgeon performing your procedure has been independently examined by a national board on the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery, including anesthesia and the management of surgical complications, not simply licensed by the state.

Dr. McDonald has also been named a Jersey Choice Top Dentist by New Jersey Monthly in 2025 and 2026. The Jersey Choice list is peer-voted: New Jersey Monthly surveys every dentist licensed in the state for five or more years, asking whom they would choose to treat their own family. 

In his spare time, Dr. McDonald enjoys cooking big meals for friends and family, playing golf, the Mets, working out, hiking, and traveling with his wife and three sons.
